Software Development Technologies Supported
Microsoft Visual Studio is the tool GITS uses to write some applications.
COBOL: GITS is maintaining both the payroll and Revised Government Accounts systems that were written in the COBOL programming language. These are batch applications that run on our S390 mainframe computer. COBOL programs are being phased out to be re-written in newer technologies. (IFMIS and IPPD systems)
MS-Access: GITSÂ Software Development provides Microsoft Access system development services for government Departments. This type of development uses MS-Access as the data storage software and MS-Access VBA as the development tool.
MS-Access is a good choice for application development when the application will run on a stand-alone machine or in a small network environment with 5 users or less. Suggested maximum data storage requirement is 2GB.
It is also less expensive in deployment.
Web Site Development: GITS's web developers use a variety of tools and languages to create web graphics and content. Their tool kit consist of HTML, PHP, Javascript, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and FrontPage.
Database Management Systems Supported
Most of GITS Software Developers support applications that use the following Database Management Systems
Oracle
Oracle is a relational database management system from Oracle Corporation.
Used in IFMIS
TopSpeed
TopSpeed is a relational database management system from TopSpeed Corporation.
The IPPD solution has been implemented on this platform.
MS-Access
MS-Access is a relational database management system from Microsoft Corporation.
Because of ease of deployment most of the applications use MS-Access.
Future
The e-government Strategy focuses on delivering the government business online. GITSÂ is in the process of developing a framework to be adapted in the software design methodolgy for future software development.
Vision
To provide GITS's clientele with functional software applications that meet their business requirements, maintain a high level of clientele satisfaction, and continue the migration to new application development technologies.
The application development process must be centered around a proven systems development methodology that assures proper project management and quality assurance practices are followed.
